Better Parks for Our Four-Legged Friends in the Inner-North
Richmond locals and their four-legged family members will have better facilities to stretch their legs in and enjoy with a re-elected Andrews Labor Government.
We’ll invest $500,000 to deliver upgrades to existing dog parks in the Yarra City Council area.
Pets are a part of the family for so many locals, and with pet ownership shown to benefit our physical and mental health, we’ll make sure Richmond locals have the quality parks for the whole family.
With many people across Richmond choosing to live in apartments or units without a backyard, we know how important local dog parks are for a pet’s well-being and for people to get outdoors and socialise.
Animal welfare is a priority of the Andrews Labor Government – which is why we are delivering the state’s first ever Pet Census, which will gather vital information to better understand trends and issues in pet ownership, helping work towards better targeted programs.
Labor banned puppy farms and gave renters the right to keep a pet with landmark rental reform laws – and only Labor will make sure dog owners have somewhere they can exercise their pets safely.
We have already funded 31 new dog parks across Victoria – ensuring every family has access to the facilities they need.
Work is also underway to upgrade 41 parks and 29 pocket parks across Melbourne as part of the Suburban Parks Program, creating up to 6,500 hectares of new parkland, walking trails, bike trails, pocket parks and dog parks – the equivalent of more than 170 Royal Botanic Gardens.
This investment will help locals and their pets keep active and healthy with better facilities close to home.
