Delivering Great Local Schools for Essendon
A re-elected Andrews Labor Government will deliver new synthetic turf hardcourts for Essendon Primary School.
We’ll invest $2.6 million to replace the asphalt hardcourts with new synthetic turf and provide funding for a masterplan to upgrade other outdoor areas at the school – ensuring local kids have safe and modern spaces to play while at school.
This builds on the $873,000 we have already invested in upgrades and critical maintenance to make Essendon Primary School a great school for students and their families.
Only a Labor Government will make sure local families have access to the best school facilities – supporting kids to do their best in the classroom, and beyond.
Since coming to government, we have invested more than $12.8 billion in building and upgrading schools in every corner of the state.
We’re delivering on our promise to build 100 new schools by 2026 with 75 already funded or opened, and we’ve delivered more than 1,850 upgrades to schools since coming to government.
That means hundreds of thousands of students are learning in more modern classrooms, science labs and libraries and benefitting from better school gyms and sports grounds.
And by building and upgrading schools across the state, we’ve supported more than 17,400 jobs in construction alone.
In Essendon, we’ve invested in upgrades and maintenance works at Ascot Vale Heights School, Ascot Vale Primary School, Ascot Vale Special School, Ascot Vale West Primary School, Debney Meadows Primary School, Essendon North Primary School, Flemington Primary School, Moonee Ponds Primary School, Moonee Ponds West Primary School, Mount Alexander College, St Brendan’s School, St Columba’s College, Strathmore North Primary School, Strathmore Primary School and Strathmore Secondary College.
We’re also transforming education for local students through the Flemington Education Plan, connecting Ascot Vale Heights School, Debney Meadows Primary School, Flemington Primary School and Mount Alexander College to share resources and expertise.
We’ve invested more in student mental health and wellbeing than any other jurisdiction in Australia, putting mental health workers into every government school.
We’ve made sure every child has the chance to participate in the activities that make school fun, through the Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund.
And we’ve reformed the senior secondary school system, combining VCE and VCAL – ensuring every young Victorian can get the education they need for the job they want.
Matthew Guy’s Liberals can’t be trusted when it comes to the future of our kids. When in government, they cut more than $1 billion from education, further cementing their legacy of cuts and school closures.
Only a re-elected Labor Government will deliver the classrooms and learning spaces our kids deserve – because only Labor will do what matters.
