Delivering Barwon Heads Road Upgrade Stage 2
A re-elected Andrews Labor Government will deliver Stage 2 of the Barwon Heads Road Upgrade – cutting travel times and making travel safer for local families.
We’ll invest $125 million to duplicate Barwon Heads Road along Armstrong Creek’s eastern boundary from between Reserve Road in the north and Lower Duneed Road in the south, matching Federal Labor’s investment.
Since coming to government, we’ve invested $35 billion to expand our road network and deliver important improvements across the region, including the Drysdale Bypass and Bellarine Link Stage 1.
This announcement builds on Stage 1 of the Barwon Heads Road Upgrade – which we are delivering in partnership with the Australian Government.
Stage 1 is expected to open in 2023 and involves duplicating 4km of Barwon Heads Road between Settlement and Reserve Roads, removing the level crossing at Marshall, upgrading intersections, installing new traffic lights and delivering new walking and cycling paths and dedicated on-road cycling lanes.
Barwon Heads Road is anticipated to reach 44,000 daily users by 2031 and today’s announcement is about upgrading the road so locals have a safe, reliable and quick route to get around – now and into the future.
Regional Victorians know better than most how important it is to have safe and reliable roads. That’s why we continue to invest in regional Victorian roads – including overtaking lanes, road resurfacing and bridge strengthening.
When it comes to creating jobs and building much-needed infrastructure, the Liberals can’t be trusted – they’ve already promised to “audit” much-needed local investments, a Liberal code for cuts and closures.
Only Labor will keep building to get Victorians home sooner and safer.
