Treasuring Our Trees in the Yarra Valley

A re-elected Andrews Labor Government will support Treasuring Our Trees to keep repurposing fallen trees for local projects, giving them a second life.

We’ll provide a $200,000 grant to help them continue salvaging and transforming salvaged timber into furniture and outdoor equipment for re-use in Victorian schools and community projects. The group also helps children learn how to value and recycle resources.

Treasuring Our Trees was established to collect fallen trees in communities affected by the severe storms of June 2021, which struck the Dandenong and Yarra Ranges. The salvaged timber was then given for use by schools and artists.

Treasuring Our Trees has also partnered with the Level Crossing Removal Project to repurpose redgum logs from the Cranbourne Line Upgrade.

Funding from a Labor Government will make sure they are well-equipped to continue to help local families and members of our community.

It builds on the massive investment in community support the Labor Government has already delivered, strengthening and connecting our neighbourhoods and suburbs.

In sharp contrast, when it comes to delivering the vital support that people in our community rely on, Matthew Guy’s Liberals can’t be trusted. Instead, their policy of cuts and closures would leave locals behind.

Only a re-elected Labor Government will back the community organisations that keep our community strong – because only Labor will do what matters.
