Protecting Jewish Communities From Antisemitism

A re-elected Andrews Labor Government will protect Jewish communities from discrimination and antisemitism by investing in community security initiatives.

There’s no place for discrimination based on faith or ethnicity in Victoria.

It doesn’t matter where you’re from, what you look like, what you believe or what language you speak – no one should have to endure intolerance.

But sadly, far-right extremism is on the rise both at home and overseas, threatening the inclusive society in which we all want to live.

A re-elected Labor Government will protect Victoria’s Jewish communities from antisemitism and violence by providing $900,000 over three years to the Community Security Group.

The Community Security Group investigate antisemitic incidents and track racist sentiment towards the Jewish community.

Supported by donations and dedicated volunteers, it provides security at Jewish community events, synagogues, schools and cultural institutions, and works with community organisations and other facilities to provide security advice.

The organisation reports that antisemitism and aggression from far-right groups has increased in Victoria in recent years.

That’s why Labor will support the Community Security Group to make sure Jewish communities in Victoria feel safe from the threat of antisemitism and far-right extremism.

Labor has backed Victoria’s Jewish community – not just with words, but with action.

We became the first state to ban the display of Nazi symbols which glorify one of the most hateful ideologies in human history.

We’ve introduced Holocaust education in every secondary school, making sure those atrocities are never forgotten. And we’ve invested more than $3.8 million in 42 community initiatives and activities that counter racism.

Labor is doing what matters – standing up for Victoria’s Jewish communities and fighting intolerance and hatred.
