Better Local Schools in Melbourne’s North
A re-elected Andrews Labor Government will deliver major upgrades totaling $32.3 million for Coburg High School and John Fawkner Secondary College.
We’ll invest $17.8 million to construct a new double-story technology building at Coburg High School, and $14.5 million at John Fawkner Secondary College for a new science and visual arts building and a new food tech building so that students can enjoy new classrooms.
The new funding builds on the Merri-Bek North Education Plan, which will support John Fawkner Secondary College, Coburg High School, Glenroy College and Pascoe Vale Girls College to ensure the best outcomes for students.
Only the Labor Government will make sure local families have access to the best school facilities – supporting kids to do their best in the classroom.
Since coming to government, we have invested more than $12.8 billion in building and upgrading schools in every corner of the state.
We’re delivering on our promise to build 100 new schools by 2026 with 75 already funded or opened and we’ve delivered more than 1,850 upgrades to schools since coming to government.
That means thousands of students are learning in more modern classrooms, science labs and libraries and using better facilities at schools like gyms and sports grounds.
And by building and upgrading schools across the state we’ve supported more than 17,400 jobs in construction alone.
We’ve invested more in student mental health and wellbeing than any other jurisdiction in Australia, putting mental health workers into every government school.
We’ve made sure every child has the chance to participate in the activities that make school fun, through the Camps Sports and Excursions Fund.
And we’ve reformed the senior secondary school system, combining VCE and VCAL to create the VCE Vocational Major and Victorian Pathways Certificate – ensuring every young Victorian can get the education they need for the job they want.
