Backing The Salvation Army To Make More Magpie Nests
A re-elected Andrews Labor Government will support The Salvation Army’s Magpie Nest program to provide a safe roof over the head of people experiencing or at risk of homelessness.
A partnership between The Salvation Army, Melbourne Project 614 and The Collingwood Football Club Foundation, Magpie Nest Housing, provides accommodation to 130 people with a history of homelessness or who are at risk of becoming homeless, with 50 two-and-three-bedroom houses currently operating.
This important work, which relies on donations and the support of a network of volunteers, has a meaningful impact on people doing it tough right across Victoria.
That’s why Labor will provide $2.08 million so that they can continue to deliver their valuable services for the people who need it most.
The program provides houses across Melbourne, supported by case workers who provide individual support and care – including links to mental health, drug and alcohol services, legal, employment and training services.
There is also an emphasis on residents engaging with community activities like sport, arts and cultural programs and volunteering in community service networks.
Labor will make sure this important community organisation is well equipped to help those doing it tough and ensure every Victorian gets the help and support they need, when they need.
Only Labor has always delivered on what matters for local communities ensuring people, no matter their circumstance, have somewhere safe to sleep and the chance to get back on their feet.
Labor is doing what matters – backing the important community organisations that help us all.
