Backing Jobs In Victorian Racing
A re-elected Andrews Labor Government will make sure Victoria remains the top racing state with a package of supports to secure a bright future for the industry.
The Spring Racing Carnival is rightly known as the leading racing event in our country. But racing in Victoria is about more than the thrill of the race itself. Race days are also about fashion, food and culture.
Whether it’s an internationally-renowned event at Flemington or the local country race day – and whether it’s thoroughbred, harness or greyhound racing – Victorian racing brings communities together.
And behind the glamourous face of racing, there are thousands of jobs bringing these major events to life.
The thoroughbred racing industry contributes $4.7 billion to Victoria’s economy and supports more than 35,000 jobs across the state, many in regional areas.
That’s why a re-elected Labor Government will invest $72 million into the Victorian Racing Industry Fund to protect the future of racing in our state.
The fund supports sustainability and growth in thoroughbred, harness and greyhound racing. It supports improvements at racing and training venues, as well as focusing on the safety and well-being of workers and animals in the industry.
Labor is doing what matters – we’ll invest to secure the future of this important industry and the thousands of jobs that depend on a vibrant racing scene.
